About Jill
Jill Alesch is a proud Iowa Native who grew up in Denison, Iowa, and now resides in Johnston, Iowa with her two children, Trevor, age 17, and Brooklyn, age 12. From a young age, Jill learned the value of hard work. Jill grew up in a family of five daughters and while there was always food on the table, her dad’s job at the packing plant didn’t always pay the bills so Jill grew up seeing her dad work two, sometimes three jobs while her mom worked the late shift at the rural hospital. Jill helped out as well and during high school worked at Hy-Vee and detasseled during the summer to help pay for expenses. After high school, Jill attended the University of Northern Iowa and enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard. In addition, she also worked at Pizza Hut as a delivery driver. After college, Jill attended law school at Drake University. During law school, she often worked 40 hours a week at the neighborhood Subway. After law school, Jill remained in the Iowa Army National Guard and became an officer of the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. Jill clerked for both the Iowa Court of Appeals and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa. In 2010 she was deployed to Afghanistan with the 2/34 Infantry Brigade Combat Team. Jill spent approximately a year deployed overseas as one of only a handful of female officers assigned to an infantry brigade combat team. Upon her return, she prosecuted violence against women and children crimes on three Native American Reservations in Nebraska in both federal and tribal court. Jill retired from the Iowa Army National Guard in 2020 after 22 years of military service. Jill currently works at Principal Life Insurance Company.
